As commencement draws near, it’s time to shine a spotlight on the remarkable journeys of upcoming graduates. These stories embody the essence of perseverance, dedication, and achievement, reflecting the diverse paths and aspirations of our students as they prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives. Join us in celebrating their successes as we share stories leading up to commencement.
Katriana Meyer, student at Baker College’s Owosso campus, chose to attend Baker because of the close knit community and the seamless collaboration with the academic department. “I love how I have been able to make so many connections not just with other students, but also staff,” she said.
Currently enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program, she is set to graduate this May. “After I graduate with my degree in Veterinary Science, I will begin working at an animal hospital as a Technician as I continue to pursue my education for a bachelor’s in business and a veterinary specialty in anesthesia,” she shared.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Katriana serves as a Resident Hall Advisor (RHA). “My favorite thing about being an RHA is the connections I make. I really love getting to know the residents and having quick chats in the halls while we are in passing,” she explains.
But Katriana’s involvement doesn’t stop there. She also holds the position of Student Representative of the 2024 Baker College Vet Tech club, where she actively engages with various organizations and events. “In this role, I get to work with numerous organizations the Vet Tech club supports and donates to, and I also have the opportunity to promote the club at events such as the Dog Bowl and during community trick or treating events.”
Katriana’s journey at Baker College took an unexpected yet fulfilling turn when she met Ethan Gee, her boyfriend, during move-in day in August 2022. He spotted her at orientation, and their connection deepened over shared interests. A short while later, they embarked on a journey of love and companionship. “Since then, we have gone on many trips, and are planning a future together. I am so excited; this September will be two years!” she shares joyfully. Adding an extra sweet touch to this love story, Ethan will also walk during Baker’s Commencement this May.
As commencement approaches, Katriana’s story serves as an inspiration that Baker is a great hive for academic and social connection.
